Integration secretariat disappears as 2008 ends
Latvia’s integration secretariat, the work of which included support for diaspora communities, disappeared with the close of 2008 as part of the government’s reorganization in the face of emergency budget-slashing. Its functions now will be handled by the Ministry for Children and Family Affairs, which now will be known as the Ministry for Children, Family and Social Integration Affairs.

Viesturs Koziols is a real estate development entrepreneur and adventurer in Latvia. He is co-holder of the Latvian hot air balloon height and distance records and has been to the North Pole. Koziols is president of Avantis, a non-government youth organization that sponsored the film Atrasts Amerikā (Found in America). Koziols also is president and part owner (12.18 percent) of Dinamo Riga, a new hockey team that plays in Russia's Kontinental Hockey League. In an interview from Finland, he talks about the team and its prospects.

Atzīmējot Latvijas neatkarības proklamēšanas 90.gadadienu, portāls "Latvians Online" oktobrī intervēja 10 latviešus, kas dzimuši vai daudz gadus dzīvojuši ārpus Latvijas, bet tagad dzīvo un strādā Rīgā.
